Tools & Equipment

Initially, each artwork or design undergoes meticulous rendering onto translucent butter paper, serving as a foundational guideline for skilled block makers during the intricate carving process. Carved from wide assortments of wood, each block demands several man-hours of carving and display of precision craftsmanship, dependent on design complexity.

Furthermore, our vast archive holds a collection of blocks accumulated over 30+ years, reflecting our heritage and perseverance of traditional textiles and their essence. Our ongoing mission is to cultivate an environment that reveres these traditions, forging a symbiotic bond between market demand and our products, skill, and heritage.

Colors &

Dyes

At Cotton Curio, our colour processes encompass Natural Dyes, Reactive Dyes, Pigments, Indigo Sol, Acid Dyes, Discharge print, Rapid Sol, and Procion, each contributing to the depth and vibrancy of our textiles.

Pigment Dyes, akin to paint, are polymer-based and mixed with a synthetic binder before printing, revealing their true colours during the process.

In contrast, Indigo Sol, derived from an Indigo dye formula, remains hidden until after printing, requiring processing in a mild acid bath for fixation.

Acid Dyes thrive in acidic environments, boasting vibrant hues, while Discharge prints create intricate designs by removing colour from dyed fabric.
